Advancements of food science and technology

From agriculture, farming and food production to new foods, food enrichments, food supplements, food packaging and food distribution, modern man relies on the methods of science and on the tools of science based technology. Things don’t happen overnight. Each society has experience its own great advancements built on earlier experiments.

Food has forever been at the center of science as it is essential for human survival as a species.

As centuries and civilizations have come and passed, each has contributed to the discovery and attainment of food supplies. The availability of energy, machinery and the advancements in food science and technology revolutionized man’s production of food. The advancements also facilitated higher yields, greater efficiency and greater nutritional content in the world’s food supply.

From the early to mid-twentieth century, scientific interest and government concerns in many countries were aimed at increasing food production, reducing the cost of food and ensuring a wholesome and safe food supply.

During the latter part of this century, food scientists have been working on increasing agricultural yields. Several of the most promising methods include hydroponics, aquaculture, and biotechnology.

With the advancement in agricultural sciences, food technology and economic development, food and food products are becoming more adequate in many parts of the world.

The advancement in food science and technology and the development in economic has also changed lifestyles and dietary patterns of the general public.
