Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range

Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) committee considers prevention of chronic disease as well as nutrient adequacy when establishing recommendations. The committee then established Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR)
It is ranges of intakes for the energy–yielding nutrients that decrease the risk of chronic disease and promotes the adequate intake of essential micronutrients. It pertains only to carbohydrates, proteins and certain fats.

The AMDR for adults is 45 to 65 percent of their total calories from carbohydrates, 20 to 35 percent from fat and 10 to 36 percent from protein. The AMDR present a balance designed to avoid risks associate with excess consumption of any particular macronutrients.
